The main goal of the design team was to define and optimise usable, family-friendly spaces whilst incorporating these changes in level.
A lounging and entertainment area was constructed, surrounded by raised beds, planters and pots of different height to maximise planting opportunities, whilst softening the existing tall retaining walls of the main building and helping to bring the outdoors ‘in’.
The upper garden space allowed for a wide central lawn and a more private area for a new outdoor building, both surrounded by further planting including evergreen foliage, multi-stem trees, climbing plants and delicate perennials.
The choice of building material was important to allow the garden to connect with the existing architecture of the building. Corten steel steps and edging added texture, whilst the tone compliments the existing stone and rusty, orange and peach colour palette of the planting scheme. Limy and pale blooms then contrast with the grey stone and new decking on the upper levels.
